Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Because the info exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the options are limited because you shall not have root access to the hosting server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to set up server-side software or to restart the server or just a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, but if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote hosting server as well.
SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting
When you have a shared hosting account with our company and you'd like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you can receive SSH access to the account via your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal does not come with this feature as standard, you can add it with a couple of mouse clicks from the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you shall see the host, the port number and the username that you need to use when you connect to the account. You can also choose what password you would like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We've prepared many Help articles in which you can find all the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they're used. Additionally, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client such as FileZilla, for example.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You'll be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH regardless of which package you pick when you sign up. With some packages, the feature is included as standard, and with others, it may be included as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You will discover the necessary login info in the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You could pick the password that you will use and if you'd like, you could change it regularly with several clicks for even higher security. You'll be able to see all the commands that you may use in advance, as we have listed them all together with examples of how they are used to execute a specific task. As soon as SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is allowed, you'll be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
If you obtain a new VPS server from our company, it will offer full root access and you shall be able to connect to the server and to manage everything through an SSH console. The feature is provided by default with all plans, so you shall not have to allow or upgrade anything. Your server will be set up soon after you order it and the minute you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect via the server’s main IP address and begin working. Since the VPS is a software emulation of a dedicated server and is separated from the other accounts on the physical machine, there won't be any restrictions regarding the commands which you can use. You'll have full root access, so that you may install and run any app that can work on a Linux server, manage files, folders and databases or start/stop/reboot your entire machine or any software operating on it.
