In accordance with the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact information a domain name is registered with must be correct and accurate all the time. Additionally, this info is openly accessible on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may be OK for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everyone can view their names and their personal street and email addresses, all the more so in an age when identity fraud isn’t that atypical. That’s why domain name registrars have come up with a service that hides the details of their clients without editing them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. In case it is enabled, people will see the details of the registrar company, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS search. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it’s still not possible to conceal your personal info with certain country-code extensions.
Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting
If you’ve ordered a shared plan
from us and you have registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of them with ease and to keep your personal data safe. Of course, this will be possible only with the extensions that support this option. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol on the right-hand side of each of your domain names. Its colour will inform you if a domain is protected or not and in the second case, you can enable Whois Privacy Protection with only a couple of mouse clicks. In this way, you can safeguard your personal data even if you have not activated the service during the registration procedure. You’ll be able to renew or to deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.
Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server
account with us and you register a domain name under it, you can activate our Whois Privacy Protection service without effort. This requires only a couple of clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, via which you administer everything associated with your semi-dedicated hosting account. This is where you can see all your domain names and for each one of them you’ll find an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, using which you can enable, renew or deactivate the Whois Privacy Protection service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-specific top-level domain name extensions that support this option and you’ll be able to see this beforehand, so that you will not end up buying a service that we can’t provide.
