There are numerous ways to point a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you have developed a website using some online service that provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party company. You should know that if you set up a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and working e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes further configuration may be necessary with the other company.
CNAME Records in Shared Hosting
Creating a CNAME record using our shared plans is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section committed to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account in a couple of basic steps. There is also a video tutorial within the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you a variety of opportunities - if you set up a company site on our end, for instance, the staff can use their emails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site using a different provider that offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain address, so all your clients will be forwarded to a secure URL.
CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record with ease. In case you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain address to a subdomain inside the account or to forward a domain to another provider and use some third-party service which they provide, it will not take you more than 3 clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain addresses and subdomains hosted within the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to pick the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video inside the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section.
